Striker Sam Winnall has talked of his delight at making his comeback from injury and finding the net in yesterday’s victory over Walsall.

Speaking to the Official Site following his first goal in three months, a happy striker explained.

‘My first goal in three months, it was a fantastic feeling. Obviously scoring a goal is great whenever it is. I love scoring goals in training but it felt a bit more special because of how long I`ve been out. It has been a frustrating time for me and to get back and score straight away in front of the home fans is phenomenal and it was just brilliant.’

Winnall goes on to say that the fans were in great voice on the day and gave him a good boost, so he was just pleased to have rewarded them with a goal and helped us to victory, in what was his second substitute appearance of the week, following the Coventry cameo.

Talking more about his time out injured he went on to again say that it had been a frustrating period, especially as he was feeling really good at points and felt he was close to a comeback and then he’d be hit with a setback and it difficult to deal with that.

‘I`d have a setback and then get close to coming back and just have another setback. It was so hard to stay mentally strong but thankfully I had the best support around me from the football club and my family and friends. Now I feel as if I`m back and I`m hungrier than ever.’

With him coming back into contention now, he went on to praise his colleagues for their fine form over the last five games and he says it is easier returning to a side that’s doing well as it eases you in quicker, with less pressure.

‘I think if you look at our performances over our last five games when we`ve been unbeaten, the organisation and the solidarity that we have had has been what we have been looking for all season. We want to be in those play-off positions come the end of May and the best thing to do now is to keep focussed and concentrate on the next game next week.’
