Super sub Slobodan Tedic netted an 85th-minute winner with his first Barnsley goal as they continued their superb form with a 1-0 victory at play-off chasing Wycombe Wanderers.

In a poor match, the Reds could not recreate their recent performances, struggling to play fluent football against direct and physical opponents who were the better team and had the better chances overall.

But Duff’s substitutes made the difference with Luke Thomas crossing for Manchester City loanee Tedic to head into the top left corner from close range in front of a jubilant away end.

The reds remain fourth in League One, eight points off the top two and nine clear in the play-off places. They are unbeaten in 11 games with nine wins.

There was one change from the win over Plymouth a week before as Max Watters replaced Devante Cole up front while Brad Collins was back on the bench after a long injury lay off.

Wycombe were the better side in the first half in which Barnsley resorted to long balls which did not work and lacked quality in all areas of the pitch.

Wycombe had a big chance in the third minute when a free-kick was headed by Chris Forino to Tjay De Barr who totally missed the ball when unmarked only eight yards out.

Watters should have put Barnsley in front when sent clean through on the left of the box but his shot was straight at the goalkeeper who saved easily.

De Barr then missed another good chance when Harry Isted misjudged a free-kick and left his goal untended but the striker headed high and wide at the back post.

Chem Campbell blazed over from six yards out on the left after Isted parried a long-range Lewis Wing strike. Forino then headed wide from a right-wing cross.

Barnsley made an improved start to the second half with Watters glancing a Phillips cross wide with his head. But Wycombe striker Brandon Hanlan headed wide when well-placed from a left-wing corner.

Wycombe then had a long spell of pressure but Barnsley kept out corner after corner.

The introductions of Thomas, Tedic and Cole made a difference with Barnsley playing better before the vital late winner.

A win is a win no matter how ugly and the reds must now focus on a huge home game against local rivals Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday.
