You Know It`s Bad When You Lose To Leeds

Relegation now seems inevitable for Barnsley following a 1 – 0 home defeat to local rivals Leeds United.

Barnsley`s recent performances at home have been as bad as I can remember in all of my time watching the reds.

Our inability to create chances, have shots on goal and even look like scoring has been frustrating to say the least. And this has been in stark contrast to our recent away form.

In the past, no matter how much we have been struggling, playing Leeds at home was a home banker. Things are that bad this season that we can`t even beat them and when that happens you know that you are in trouble.

Many fans have criticised the decision to play one up front at home and blamed that for our lack of goals and chances created. The fact that it has worked away does not mean that we should stick with it at home particularly with our run of not scoring at Oakwell.

However I will counter that argument with one up front isn`t necessarily a negative formation if you have the right creative players behind that one.

For me, Wilson has continued with one up front at home because of a lack of other options. Proschwitz was again the only other striking option available and was again poor when he came on.

But are the lack of striking options the fault of Wilson to begin with? Rose out on loan, Dagnall and Scotland let go in January with only Proschwitz brought in.

I would say they are but I would also say in general that Wilson has done a good job. He has improved us and made us harder to beat but ultimately for me we just aren`t good enough.

I do think however that a few different decisions during the January transfer window and we would have had a better chance of survival.

Many of the players brought in just haven`t cut it and there have been times when it has been crying out for Perkins in midfield, Dagnall up front or Wiseman at right back.

League One here we come I`m afraid.
