Simon told the post match press conference: “It was not the result we wanted or the result we deserved. I cannot fault my player`s attitude or work ethic. We had the better chances and we were denied a definite penalty in the first half.

The Barnsley boss felt aggrieved that the referee didn`t point to the spot after Stephen Foster was hauled to the ground by Gary Speed in the box;

“I tried to show the referee the video of the penalty of the first half but he was having none of it. I saw it, four officials saw it and 16,000 people saw it but he just didn`t give it.

The tykes enjoyed the majority of possession and had more chances but failed to come away from the derby with anything;

“We`ve played well again and come away with nothing. We were the better side but we`ll live to fight another day”.

Next up is a tough trip to Burnley on Saturday and the reds will be hoping to end their miserable away record having not won away from home in the league since September. It is vital that Barnsley grab a win sooner rather than later as the tykes seem to be edging ever closer to the dreaded drop zone.
