Our choice is Sean O’Driscoll the 55 year old former Forest Boss has a win percentage rate of 36% following periods with Bournemouth, Doncaster Rovers, Crawley and Nottingham Forest. The fact that O’Driscoll went to Crawley, though he did not manage them in a competitive game leads me to believe he would be happy to enter talks with the club.
Other Candidates and leading contenders include:
Phil Brown – Former Bolton (Caretaker), Derby, Hull and Preston gaffer has stated he would like to enter back into football management. Has a poor record other that the promotion at Hull and I dont think he would be a positive appointment.
Gary Megson – Megson is not the choice of the fans at Oakwell. His last job was at our most fierce rivals Sheffield wednesday, Megson played a large part in a promotion season for the Owls and many fans feel he was unfairly sacked. Megson has managed 9 clubs in over 600 matches with a win percentage of 35% and several successful periods.
David Flitcroft – Number two to Keith Hill for a number of years. No experience of leading a club and we dont feel he would be the fresh approach required.
Steve Cotterill – When you looked at the teams Cotterill has managed he has managed and got results with several crisis clubs. Cotterill has a win percentage of an impressive 41% from almost 600 games! The board should have a look at the CV should it land at Oakwell. Its worth a glance.
Owen Coyle – Managed in Scotland and lead Burnley to the premier league. The former Bolton boss had so terrible luck at the reebok. Could the club attract Owen? We at Vital Barnsley would doubt this. Win Rate at 42% a very good figure.
Phil Parkinson – Parkinson is currently the the manager of Cup Giant Killers Bradford City they are his fourth club following periods at Colchester, Hull and Charlton. Parkinson had relative success at all barring Hull were he struggled with 24 games in charge. Decent win percentage at 38%.
Neil Refearn – Would get bums on seats at Oakwell and create a short term buzz. Though Long term and with his currently record as a number one, maybe now the man for the job. I would love to see a role for Redders as a number 2!
Pat Fenlon – The Hibs manager has a great record with every club he has managed. He managed clubs in Ireland before getting his break at Hibs. He has been a success at Hibs. Could the Oakwell Board Splash the cash for a manager with a 50% win rate? Alex Fergusons win rate is 58% in comparison!
So come on vital followers lets have you thoughts below please!

Fenlon has the stats when you look at it. I agree that Cotterill should be taken seriously!
Please not Brown… Anyone on the list barring Brown.
Not Flicker either… Thank you Mr Cryne….
Shffield Star are talking O’Driscoll or Megson. Other names include Redfearn, Rosler, John Sheridan and Uwe Rosler!
Any thoughts?
Micky Mellon and Nicky Butt thrown in!!!
Gutted not to see Pat Fenlon getting much of a mention…
Please not Flicker..
Bradford worried over Parkinson????

Not flicker, butt, Mellon , Sheridan or Brown please. All of the rest have look decent on paper. We will probably take the cheap unambitious option though.
As long as it’s not Blackwell…he couldn’t manage a pub team!
Whoever it’s going to be is going to have to work on a very tight shoe-string budget, which is basically what KH had to cope with.
Personally, I think it will be someone who has been out of work for a while and desperate to get back into management (even with no money to spend on decent players).
Any suggestions Englebert?
My guess would be one of the following five:
Paul Ince (not sure he would come with no budget to spend)..?
Gary Megson (out of work for a while and wants to get back in the game)
Phil Brown (not ideal to be honest, but same reason as above)
Sean O’Driscoll (only just lost his job but keen to prove a point)
Steve Cotterill (again been out of work for a while, but used to working on limited budgets)
Hope this helps Chief..?
Like the suggestions. I agree that ince wouldn’t come and I also wouldn’t want Brown. The others could do a job for us.
