In the midst of the greatest show on earth, there`s the small matter of the Carling Cup First Round draw to take place on Wednesday at 9.30am.

The Reds will find out who they will face in round one from a pot of 15 other northern clubs from the bottom two divisions of the Football League.

As a seeded team and with the north/south divide in effect for the first round, the Reds could be pitted against any one of the following sides in the week commencing August 9th:

Carlisle United, Oldham Athletic, Tranmere Rovers, Hartlepool United, Rochdale, Stockport County, Morecambe, Rotherham United, Chesterfield, Bury, Bradford City, Accrington Stanley, Crewe Alexandra, Macclesfield Town, Lincoln City.

Last season the Reds enjoyed an exciting run in the Carling Cup, despatching Lincoln City, Reading and Burnley before exiting via a televised clash at Oakwell with Manchester United.
