Contract Talks on Hold

Barnsley boss David Flitcroft has confirmed that talks with players who are out of contract in the summer have been put on hold until after the January transfer window.

Flicker explained that the priority in January would be recruiting players and that contracts would be discussed as soon as January is over.

Steele and Hassell are two players out of contract in the summer and I believe contracts won`t be discussed until the reds know what division they will be in.

In Hassell`s case I think a contract will only be agreed if he is willing to take a pay cut and be willing to be a bit part player.

As for Steele, if the reds stay up he will be offered a new deal but available to leave for free to any club that wants him. If we go down I don`t think he will be offered a new deal at all as Steele won`t want to play in League One and Barnsley won`t want to pay the wages someone of his quality will be able to get.

Hassell is coming to the end of his Barnsley career but I know the club are keen to give him another season to repay his loyalty as it would be his testimonial year.

Steele if under contract is worth quite a bit of money and how Barnsley could let another player of high value get to this stage with their contract is beyond a joke.

The board need a serious word with themselves about how they conduct their business.
