Delap Wants Long Term Stay

Rory Delap has said that he would love to make his move to Barnsley a long term deal.

Delap is now 34 and has fallen down the pecking order at Stoke. He has had a frustrating six months and would love to move to Barnsley permanently in the search of regular first team football.

Whether or not a deal can be struck will depend on what division the reds find themselves in next season.

If relegation does happen then the club won`t be able to afford Delap and I can`t see the player himself wanting to play in League One.

Depends how materialistic he is for me, I would imagine he is on 10k min at Stoke.

  • chiefred says:

I’d say at least that but if you listen to him he does sound frustrated about not playing at Stoke but he would have to take a significant pay cut with us.

Is it 34..? I heard he was now 36, but anyway he’s got to impress until the end of the season firstly, then if he contributes to keeping us up, he knows it will be his last contract as a player, so wages might not be that bad, but as I say, Flicker will judge him between now and may, so watch this space..?

I quoted Paul Walker from radio Sheffield this morning with his age but he seems to have been around forever so could easily be 36. I will check.

  • chiefred says:

    He is infact 36.

It’s not the only error I have made on this website though. The other one is repeated and deliberate but I decided I wasn’t going to change it until it was pointed out.

No problem Chief…it’s safe to say he’s edging towards the end of his career, but keep up the good work anyway!

  • chiefred says:

Yes we will be his last contract if we do sign him and after listening to him on the radio I don’t think he would want too much money if he was to get regular first team football.

it all depends on the obvious, if he can do a job and is fit enough, then why not.just like Jason Scotland, he is going about it the right way, contributing to the cause!!!!

  • chiefred says:

Yes and not many fans I spoke to wanted Scotland but he couldn’t do much better than he has so far, let’s hope he can keep it going. I must admit I wasn’t convinced he would answer our goalscoring parayers but he is doing so far.
