Barnsley captain Stephen Foster has been declared fit to play this weekend despite reports claiming the former Crew man to be out for the rest of the season.
The 28-year-old had an operation on a hernia four weeks ago but did feature for the Reds against Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton.
Since last weekend`s fixture, Foster has suffered from swelling to the groin but manager Simon Davey insists the defender will play through the pain barrier this Saturday:
Speaking to the Sheffield Star, Simon said:
‘Stephen Foster had an operation four weeks ago and, after two games in quick succession, he developed a fluid sac in his groin. Stephen has rested all week and trained fully at a high tempo today
‘He had the fluid drained away and is taking antibiotics and anti-inflammatories. The fluid has come back a little, but he will have it drained away again if necessary. We are looking to play him on Saturday.”
It`s no secret that any manager will not risk any player when it comes to injuries, and Simon is certain there is no risk at playing his star defender, whatsoever:
Davey continued:
‘I have spoken to the specialist and he has told me that it is very common after the kind of surgery Stephen had. You just get on with it and it will disappear in time. It is something we will just have to manage. There is no risk in playing him and there is no danger of a hernia developing at all. Stephen is desperate to play.’
It certainly isn`t out of Stephen`s nature to put his foot in where it hurts, the same will go for his injury and will always battle through the pain.
