Barnsley central defender Rob Edwards has joined league two side Fleetwood Town on a one month loan deal, subject to confirmation from the football league.

The 29 year old has been out with injury this season and will be hoping to gain some match fitness during this loan spell. He is yet to make an appearance this season and has only made 18 in total since his arrival from Blackpool.

Edwards joins former red Jon Parkin at Fleetwood.

Edwards has struggled to establish himself in the reds starting line up since he came to the club. Injuries have played their part but it is clear he is not a first choice option for boss Keith Hill.

I agree with Hill that if everyone was fit and available he wouldn`t be a starter for me either.

However with Foster missing against Peterborough the other week we were badly exposed at centre half. I do think it may have been better to keep him at the club for the time being as an option as its slim pickings in the centre back area at the moment.

Hopefully the international break will give Foster time to recover and McNulty the opportunity to come back. Wiseman has done a good job filling in with Foster by his side but him and Cranie together were exposed badly, particularly in the air.

If Foster, McNulty and Wiseman are all available for selection come the next game then I think the decision to loan him out will have been a good one but at the moment I do worry about the options we have after the last few games.

Maybe the move is even more of shrewd one from Keith Hill and he is sending him out on loan to a lower division team during the international break to gain some match fitness and with a 24 hour recall clause?
