How’s The Drainage At Carrow Road?

Barnsley supporters made a 11 hour round trip to Home Park in vain last November, as the Reds 4-1 lead over Plymouth Argyle was voided after 58 minutes by referee Gavin Ward.

Looks who’s in charge of tomorrow’s game at Carrow Road. Yep! Gavin Ward.

The 28-year-old referee was the subject of intense criticism for his decision to abandon the fixture between Argyle and the Tykes due to a waterlogged pitch.

The result would have stood had the match reached 70 minutes, but instead all the statistics from the game were scratched. All of course except the yellow card picked up by Nathan Doyle. One of FIFA’s most unfair rules.

A very fair article on the abandoned game can be viewed here at The Guardian where John Ashdown states that Ward was right to abandon the game, but did it in the wrong way.

Hopefully, Carrow Road has excellent pitch draining facilities, or tomorrow Ward could potentially destroy our first chance at winning at Carrow Road in 73 years.
