Iain Hume spoke to Barnsley Player after the win at Oakwell over Leicester City. The Canadian international completed a full 90 minutes which will have done him the world of good but by his own admission he isn’t fully fit yet:

‘I’m made up I got through 90 minutes today. I think everyone could tell I wasn’t fit enough today.’ he told the club’s official website. But Hume was a good choice for man of the match. His work rate was second to none and his set peices were almost always spot on, not to mention that he had a hand in the goal.

He continued: ‘There was that little bit missing but that’s going to come with games and hopefully I can keep a hold of the spot. I need to start scoring goals if I want that.’

Hume’s strike rate of six from 28 starts is not that bad and with a couple more games under his belt he should continue to repay the fee we paid for him, although no-one at the club is thinking that way about him after the injury he suffered over a year ago. We’re still just grateful to see him on the field.

He was a real thorn in Leicester City’s side all night long and although they gave him a warm reception the Foxes faithful would have been terrified of his every touch: ‘Their fans have come down they’ve given me a good round of applause. I’m playing for our fans now. I think both of them tonight were brilliant and to get three points for us and still get clapped off the pitch by their fans was big for me.’

It’s testament to Hume’s character. He’s a likeable man and it’s a joy to have him at our club. The Leicester fans must miss him dearly.
