Managers Reaction

Barnsley boss Keith Hill gave his reaction to the derby defeat to Sheffield Wednesday which leaves the reds deep in relegation trouble.

Speaking to the official website Hill said ‘I thought the first half was quite predictable. We weathered the storm quite comfortably but we weren`t as good as we expected to be in possession. The second half I was really pleased with how we dominated possession. Wednesday tried to absorb and leave it to the counter attack. There were two calls for penalties which we didn`t get. I thought it was a difficult game for the referee. Games are being decided by major decisions going wrong by referees and it`s not the first time it`s gone wrong for me or Dave Jones. I saw a collective effort and strive to get back into the game but it just didn`t happen.`

I would agree that the effort and strive was there but again we were severely lacking in the final third.

We simply aren`t clinical enough whether that is with shots on goal or our final ball.

If you look at the stats we had 20 shots to their 7 and 13 on target to their 6 but our many of those are real chances that are created? My answer would be not many and the majority are no more than half chances. When we do create clear cut opportunities we just don`t put them away.

Is the problem the supply or who is on the end of them? The answer to that is alarmingly both.

Craig Davies is the man most likely to find the net for the reds but how many of his shots are from outside the box? The answer to that is most of them.

We are undoubtedly in deep trouble and I fear that League One football is inevitable whether the club stick or twist with regards to the manager.

No contract offers to Steele and Davies suggest to me as well that the club want them off the wage bill as they can`t afford to keep them if/when we do go down.

Judging by that performance you lot with a bit better finishing will be absolutely fine. Tuddars will come good and if you manage to keep hold of davies for the rest of this season at least you will score enough to stay up.
That had to be one of the most one sided games I have seen in a while just unfortunate you didn’t finish any of your 20 shots.
For what it’s worth I think you have a pretty good manager in Hill – he is not deluded unlike some other managers – he knows what needs doing and he’s used to fighting for everything.
any way sorry for intruding just thought I would see how you lot viewed the situation…………
chin up I still think you are a better position than us!!!

Dont mind the intruding. Putting the ball in the back of the net is a long term problem. I can see how you might think we would be fine but I’m not convinced we will start scoring. Tudgay gets himself in some good positions but I’m not sure he is a goalscorer. I also think there’s a strong chance Davies could be off in January. I agree with your comments about Hill but I’m not sure he will be given much more time if results don’t change. My main worry though is that Steele will be sold in January and that will almost certainly condem us to the drop.
