Date: Thursday, July 9th 2009

Kick Off: 7.45pm

Venue: Silverlands, Buxton

Opposition: Buxton

An 80 mile round trip for the Reds sees them take on Northern Premier League Buxton F.C.

Buxton provided opposition for Barnsley last year in pre-season with the Reds running out 4-1 winners thanks to braces from Jon Macken and youngster Jamil Adam.

Silverlands holds approximately 5200 and will house a small army of Reds fans on Thursday as Barnsley look to get off to a winning start in pre-season to carry the momentum into the league.

The match against the Bucks may see four Reds trialists make their debuts as they seek a contract at Oakwell. Maxime Chanot joins Dean Morgan, David Preece and Chris Ramsey looking to impress before the season begins.

Meanwhile it will also hopefully see the return of Iain Hume to first team action after his lengthy spell out with a fractured skull. Reds boss Simon Davey is confident Hume can return to action with no effects from his injury. He told the club’s official website:

‘To be honest I look at him and he doesn’t look any different. I’ve not seen him pull out of a challenge yet. Hopefully he’ll be fine and fingers crossed on that.’
