Mattis shown the door

Seventy five thousand pounds for a player who started four times in a Barnsley shirt.

Many think that Dwayne Mattis was a safety purchase in case Barnsley were relegated at the end of last season.

The initial fee to bring Dwayne from Bury was £50k but rose to £75k after the reds avoided the drop last season.

Although first team opportunities may have been few and far between for Dwayne, a cameo appearance in the league cup up at St James` park will be one of his highlights during an extremely short stint at Oakwell.

The tykes have now opened the door to three central midfielders in Mattis, Johnson and Togwell and let us not forget the potential exit of club captain, Brian Howard.

Many fans are hoping that the door in to Oakwell will be opened to a few technically able players and of course the out and out goalscorer that has been absent from Oakwell for many seasons.

couldn’t see the point in buying him – waste of 75k

Is he really that bad? If he was bought in case Barnsley went down then surely he must be able to do a job in league 1. What a ridiculous clause to put in someones contract.
