Barnsley chief executive Ben Mansford has revealed that Jacob Mellis has been offered a new contract.

Mansford hinted that the deal was offered as the player is under 24 and Barnsley need to protect their investment.

Reading between the lines it seems that the offer of a new contract is based purely on finances rather than the fact the club would like to keep Mellis.

I do however think that the talent is there and it is the job of the manager to get him performing week in week out. If Wilson can do this then Mellis could still become an important and influential player for the reds in League One.
