Reds Riverside Reaction

Barnsley’s first trip to the Riverside ended in a 2-1 defeat as the Reds ran Middlesbrough close in the second half after an off-colour first half display.

Reds boss Mark Robins spoke to Barnsley Player after the game. He said: ‘I do not think we ever really got started in the first half and we gave them two goals.’

To be fair, Middlesbrough’s goals were good finishes and it was that that proved to be the difference on the night.

‘We had some great chances in the second,’ Robins continued, ‘and I thought we limited them to a few from long range and a couple of ricochets.’

Barnsley did put on a spirited fight back in the second half but only managed to pull back one goal through midfielder Hugo Colace.

It was the Reds’ seventh defeat on the road from fourteen and leaves them in 10th place, now four points off the Play-Offs and seven points above the relegation places.
