Months and months of speculation have culminated in Chris Wood finally joining Barnsley on loan from Premier League club West Brom.

The 18-year-old forward was spotted at Oakwell in pre-season, watching the Reds beat Huddersfield 3-1 and rumours have been rife all summer long about a loan move to South Yorkshire for the New Zealand international.

Wood told Barnsley Player, ‘It’s been a long time coming. I’m just glad it’s been agreed. They had to hold me back just to keep me as cover for first team injuries.’

The Auckland born striker has penned a 93 day loan deal at Barnsley, joining fellow Premier League loanee Garry O’Connor in contention for a start up front on Saturday at Reading. Wood has also been called up to the New Zealand squad for next month’s international break.

He travelled to the World Cup with New Zealand and appeared in all three of their matches in South Africa.
