Sign Them Up Now

After listening to an interview with Barnsley boss David Flitcroft yesterday, my plea is to Patrick Cryne and Don Rowing to get the manager and out of contract players signed up now.

What division we end up in is irrelevant it needs doing now before it is too late.

Flicker for me has done enough to warrant a long term deal whether he keeps us in this division or not. Why not just tie him down now? Are they still on the lookout for someone better? Surely not. Who could have got more out of this group of players? What if another club makes him an offer he can`t refuse?

Flicker also expressed a worry that other clubs would come in for players and if Barnsley did survive then we would be back at square one next season having to search for players to bolster the squad.

I say get them signed up now. Even if we go down I think it`s better to be able to sell say Steele for however many hundred thousand rather than lose him for nothing just to get his wages off the books.

O`Grady has expressed his desire to join Barnsley on a permanent basis so I say set the wheels in motion now. What`s the point only signing him if we stay up? If we go down we need players at the club to get us back up and I think if we can keep this group and manager together then the only way is up.

The way the club operates with regards to contracts is one of the only criticisms that I have. I think the club are always looking at what if we go down and we still have those wages to pay, rather than well if we go down and Steele is still on the books then we can sell him rather than lose him for nothing.

The other criticism I have is the ticket pricing. I don`t mention these two points much because I don`t like to look at negative aspects regarding our beloved Barnsley. So I hope I`m not one of the keyboard warriors that Don Rowing was referring to in the Star a few weeks ago.

Come on Barnsley, be positive and show some ambition. Hardest run in, so what? The teams at the top are bottling it and the teams at the bottom are on form. It might work in our favour, it might not. Most teams at the bottom have several games against each other so something has got to give there.

its really a no brainer. if we go down we need the players to get us back up, not start rebuilding again and again. why no make contracts available that are relevant depending of what division we are in? ie for example 5k if we are in championship, 3k if we are not.yes i know the modern footballer is money orientated, but i believe we have a good set of lads here.

Agree Torrox, I think most of our squad would agree to that type of deal unless another club came in with an unbelievable offer.

Can’t disagree with what you say Chief, but it doesn’t really matter what we all say as fans, they are set in their ways and so will probably leave it too late to tie people down to new contracts, as much good work as Don and Pat have done for the club, I fear we’ll be going over old ground when it comes to new contracts etc…DF and the lads have done brilliantly, to even stay in the race to stay up, great team spirit, commitment, hard work etc.. Flicker deserves a new longer term contract, but someone will probably tempt him away (whatever division we’re in)! we can only hope..?

think you’re right Englebert, despite the great work that those two do for the club they always seem to get this part wrong and we lose our best players for peanuts. Maybe this time it will be different.

Whats all this talk about what league were in??? We will be in the championship! fact! With 2 other south Yorkshire clubs Shaffield United and Doncaster Rovers!!!!

  • Engleberthumbertyke says:

Hope we are very much a championship side next season Oldtime..!
and we will indeed have another Yorkshire derby, (against Doncaster Rovers) but I’m not sure the other team will make it..? the way they are playing at the moment, but you never know.

I am fairly confident we will stay up now but so will Wednesday I think Oldtime. The more derbies the better for me.
