Sign Them Up Now

After listening to an interview with Barnsley boss David Flitcroft yesterday, my plea is to Patrick Cryne and Don Rowing to get the manager and out of contract players signed up now.

What division we end up in is irrelevant it needs doing now before it is too late.

Flicker for me has done enough to warrant a long term deal whether he keeps us in this division or not. Why not just tie him down now? Are they still on the lookout for someone better? Surely not. Who could have got more out of this group of players? What if another club makes him an offer he can`t refuse?

Flicker also expressed a worry that other clubs would come in for players and if Barnsley did survive then we would be back at square one next season having to search for players to bolster the squad.

I say get them signed up now. Even if we go down I think it`s better to be able to sell say Steele for however many hundred thousand rather than lose him for nothing just to get his wages off the books.

O`Grady has expressed his desire to join Barnsley on a permanent basis so I say set the wheels in motion now. What`s the point only signing him if we stay up? If we go down we need players at the club to get us back up and I think if we can keep this group and manager together then the only way is up.

The way the club operates with regards to contracts is one of the only criticisms that I have. I think the club are always looking at what if we go down and we still have those wages to pay, rather than well if we go down and Steele is still on the books then we can sell him rather than lose him for nothing.

The other criticism I have is the ticket pricing. I don`t mention these two points much because I don`t like to look at negative aspects regarding our beloved Barnsley. So I hope I`m not one of the keyboard warriors that Don Rowing was referring to in the Star a few weeks ago.

Come on Barnsley, be positive and show some ambition. Hardest run in, so what? The teams at the top are bottling it and the teams at the bottom are on form. It might work in our favour, it might not. Most teams at the bottom have several games against each other so something has got to give there.
