Super Sub Jason Scotland came off the bench to net his third in three substitute appearances.

If someone had offered us 34 points from 32 games in mid December I am sure we would have snapped off their hand.
Well thanks to the hard work and commitment of all at the club and the foresight of David Flitcroft and Mickey Mellon that’s exactly what we have.

We travelled to the Riverside full of hope although we had never beaten Middlesbrough since their move to the Riverside.

Tony Mowbray had watched the reds against Millwall last week and seen how we have been starting games, Boro came out all guns blazing. The reds weathered the early storm and when Tom Kennedy found Jim O’Brien after 6 minutes, the reborn midfielder fired the Tykes ahead with the aid of a deflection.

Barnsley grew into the game throughout the first half and went in with a well deserved 1-0 lead.

Middlesbrough made the changes at half time and came out with a renewed game plan.
The plan played dividends 5 minutes into the second half when a mix up between Steve Foster and Luke Steele allowed Carayol to put the Teesiders level.

Ten minutes later and they were to take the lead Seb Hines brought the ball forward unchallenged which was unusual as the Reds gave Boro very little time all afternoon. Hines shot fell to Main who sent Middlesbrough into a 2-1 lead.

Flicker rang the changes, on came O’Grady and Scotland.

On 70 minutes Rory Delap threw in one of his custom long throws, the ball broke to Scott Golbourne who levelled the match from point blank range.

Barnsley now had a spring in their step and 5 minutes later they won an indirect free kick after some unselfish running from O’Grady. The free kick was well worked between Goldbourne and Scotland. Scotland fired in his shot off the underside of the bar and the Reds had a 3-2 lead.

Boro threw lots at Barnsley Late on, but everyone of the Barnsley players gave everything, Tom Kennedy playing through cramp.

I have to say I am very impressed at flicker going for 3 points 2 week running when we could have easily settled for a point.
