After a lengthy chase throughout the summer, Barnsley’s pursuit of Liverpool winger Adam Hammill looks to finally have come to a successful end.

Simon Davey has announced publicly twice that he has made bids for the young winger from Liverpool but has constantly been delayed by the Merseyside giants, because they wanted to ‘take a look at him during pre-season.’

Davey has been a fan of Hammill for some time and took the youngster on loan for Barnsley at the end of last season. Hammill scored an important equaliser for the Reds in their final game of the season at Home Park, where Barnsley secured Championship survival and since then, the chase has been on to secure Hammill’s signature once again.

In a post-match press conference at Oakwell on Saturday, Simon Davey told reporters the deal is ‘not signed, sealed and delivered at the moment.’

Davey doesn’t believe the winger will be available for Saturday’s opener at Sheffield Wednesday, even if the deal does end up going ahead, but Davey’s comments do sound promising.
