Barnsley manager Simon Davey has splashed the cash on Canadian international striker Iain Hume from Leicester City.

The Reds have paid the Foxes £1.2million for the twenty-four year old, as Simon Davey seeks to solve his side`s inability to convert chances in front of goal.

Tykes’ manager Simon Davey told the club`s official site:

“We have been tracking Iain all summer and I have been an admirer of him since his days at Tranmere. Iain is a big talent who, at the age of twenty four, is just starting to come into his prime”.

Hume made 44 appearances for Leicester City last season, netting eleven goals from an awkward wide position.

Davey continued:

“He is an ambitious player who shares our drive and ambition for success here at Barnsley FC”.

Born in Edinburgh, Hume arrived at Leicester City for three quarters of a million pounds and has made twenty two appearance for the Canadian international side.

Hume has penned a three year contract at Oakwell, keeping him at the club until at least the summer of 2011.

Waste of money i’m afraid but he’s got to be better than that big lad you have up front.

A bit on the expensive side if you ask me. I mean I can understand teams paying in excess of a million for a Leicester defender… but for a striker? Leicester got relegated because they couldn’t score goals, not becasue they conceded too many. Could have done better I’m afraid.

really surprised you have paid this for a very average player. ive heard howard is coming to the lane for 1.5m and signing on friday afternoon.

Got a good ahrd working payer there. The only reason for the price I can think of is that Tranmere have a sell on clause and Leicester inflated the price for that. Although competition could have had something to do with it.
