Barnsley Football Club owner Patrick Cryne has posted a very interesting statement on the club’s official website, launching an attack on the decision made by referee Gavin Ward to abandon the match between Plymouth Argyle and Barnsley at Home Park on Saturday.
In the statement, which can be found on the club’s official website, Cryne talks about being a referee himself as a youngster and how it’s the ‘big decisions’ that help build a referee’s career. He explains that Mr. Ward made a ‘big decision’ on Saturday, in choosing to abandon the game, but not the right decision.
Most of the controversy comes from the fact that the decision was made in such haste by Ward, without consultation with either of the respective club managers.
To add insult to injury, as Cryne explains, Anderson Da Silva has not yet served his ban as the game did not stand, yet the yellow card picked up by Nathan Doyle does stand, meaning that both players will now be unavailable for our trip to Blackpool next weekend.
As if we needed another excuse to have a go at the F.A. after Morgangate, we have been short-changed once again by a shocking decision, not to mention the fact that our fans will have to make a 500 mile round trip again to watch the replay which, in all honesty could well be abandoned again, should they put someone hapless in charge in a bit of a shower.
The statement from Cryne, however hopelessly inconsequential, is a brilliantly articulate declaration of the frustration, anger and helplessness felt by Barnsley Football Club and it’s supporters.
