Simon Davey was delighted with his team’s 2-0 victory over Derby County at Oakwell.

Talking to barnsleyfc.co.uk:

‘I have to give all the credit to my players. They have worked extremely hard for the first five games of the season without getting their rewards in four of those.’

Barnsley were the only team in the Championship without any points prior to yesterday’s crucial clash at Oakwell, with Derby awaiting their first win of the season.

‘I thought both sides looked nervous at times and you could expect that when you look at the runs we were on. Sometimes players do things that they wouldn’t normally do.

‘Something had to turn for us and I thought we looked a different side after the goal. It has been a long month for us and we were overdue a win.’

Iain Hume smashed in a phenomenal half-volley on 72 minutes that sent the Oakwell crowd bonkers, ten minutes later the £1.2M man swung in a peach of a corner for Stephen Foster to nod home.

‘Iain (Hume) did extremely well. He scored a magnificent goal and put over a great corner for the second.’
