Barnsley supporters will no doubt be saddened to hear that ex-Red Chris Lumsdon has been forced to retire from the game at the age of 30.

The Darlington midfielder’s career has been blighted by a back injury since the summer of 2008 after a pre-season game at Partick Thistle with Carlisle United and he has decided to call it a day in the battle to overcome the setback.

A £350,000 signing from Sunderland, Lumsdon slotted into the Reds midfield nicely after a successful loan spell and went on to make 97 first team appearances for the Reds, scoring 13 goals between 2001 and 2004.

In a fantastic interview with the News & Star Chris talks about his career and how he is coming to terms with the fact he must now find another line of work.

Chris retires with the best wishes of Vital Barnsley.
