Speaking to radio Sheffield David Flitcroft gave his thoughts on the job that lies ahead. He spoke of everything from the transfer window to his relationship with Keith Hill.
Flicker wants at least three new players in with none going out. However a lot of the recruitment could depend on whether players leave the club or not.
A striker is the number one priority and there are many good ones available according to the reds boss.
Davide Somma of Leeds is one player rumoured to be of interest to Barnsley and Leeds could be willing to loan the player out after his recent return from injury.
Signing Luke Steele up to a new contract is a must. Even if that means with a clause in his contract saying that he can leave for a few hundred thousand if we are relegated.
I`m sure a centre half will also be the manager`s wish list during this transfer window and the other position could be anywhere as long as it`s the right player who could make a difference.
Jacob Butterfield is again available for loan and there`s a chance Barnsley could go in for him again after failing just before he went to Bolton.
Norwich will want Butterfield to be playing first team football after he spent his time at Bolton on the bench.
At Barnsley he would do this as Flitcroft knows the player and would be able to get the best out of him.
I hear many fans saying no more midfielders please. It is the position we have the most players but what we are missing is someone from midfield who can be creative and score some goals.
Many will say Mellis is that man. He is certainly the most creative we have and on his day is a great player.
However he is in and out of games far too much and his effort leaves a lot to be desired. Butterfield would be much more involved on the ball and does work harder for the team as well.
In the current system I would like to see Butterfield in a midfield with Dawson and Perkins with Mellis and O`Brien as options from the bench.
O`Brien is tireless and has been great for Barnsley but is definitely more suited to playing wide right than in the role behind the strikers.
If not Butterfield would Brian Howard be worth taking a punt on following his release from Portsmouth?
He could maybe do a job coming off the bench for the reds and he`s still young enough. Maybe coming back to Barnsley could kick start his career again?
One player I`m not expecting to come back despite him asking to is Hugo Colace. The former reds midfielder has been in touch with Don Rowing saying he`d love to come back and isn`t concerned about how little the club are able to pay him.
That is in stark contrast to Anderson De Silva who turned down the contract offered to him by Barnsley. De Silva was expecting similar money to what he was on the first time round but Rowing explained that those wages are beyond the club now.
So De Silva would rather be without a club than play for less than he considers he is worth. That is just typical of the greedy modern player.
In Flicker`s interview he was also asked about his relationship with former boss Keith Hill. They came in as a pair and said they were a management team.
Flitcroft explained that Hill had given his blessing for him to take the job and that it would not affect their relationship at all and that Hill knows it`s important for him to stay in a job and provide for his family.
Flicker is hoping to have a new face in before Saturday`s trip to Ipswich. Any fans heard any rumours of who could be coming to Oakwell?
