In a statement on Barnsley’s official website, the club have announced that after protracted negotiations, Adam Hammill has agreed to join Premier League Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Hammill has been the subject of major speculation throughout the entire season but it reached fever pitch this month with the transfer window opening for 31 days.

Mick McCarthy was spotted at Oakwell to watch Hammill play against Coventry City, fuelling speculation of his interest, but other clubs such as Blackpool and Nottingham Forest have declared their own interest in the winger.

The 22-year-old Liverpudlian opted for Wolves however, after completing a medical at Molineux on Tuesday night and has signed a three and a half year deal with the Premier League strugglers.

Barnsley now face a race against time to bring in a new face to replace Hammill, who was the club’s top scorer this season with eight goals.
