Barnsley’s JPT season continues for at least one more round, with a place in the area final secured, after a penalty shootout win against Wigan at the DW Stadium on Saturday.

This penalty shootout win; after a two-two draw, over the Latics in the JPT semi final booked the Reds a place in the area final meaning it’s now one tie from the JPT final itself at Wembley!

The lead came Barnsley’s way when Adam Hammill (42) fired past veteran Wigan ‘keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen just before the break, although just after it Yanic Wildschut, who was brought off the bench, crossed into Will Grigg (48) and he levelled it up.

Once again the Reds were ahead soon after as Conor Hourihane was denied by a fine save from Jaaskelainen but on loan Newcastle man Ivan Toney (53) followed up to head home to make it two-one, and leave the win on.

In the final 10-minutes Wigan forced a penalty shootout though when Craig Davies’ cross to Grigg (82) saw him force a penalty shootout!

Hourihane, Toney, Sam Winnall and Alfie Mawson were all successful for Barnsley but with; ironically enough as they’re former Reds, Davies and David Perkins both missing from the spot (Max Power and Jordan Flores were successful) it was the Reds who went into the area final, and as said a step closer to the overall final.
