It appears that Derby defender Lewin Nyatanga will be staying with the Rams despite Barnsley having agreed a deal for the centre half back in January.

Lewin`s agent told the Sheffield Star:

‘As far as we are concerned, Lewin has three years left at Derby and he will stay and fight for his place

The 19 year old Welsh international spent the majority of last season on loan at Barnsley, forming a great partnership with both Stephen Foster and Dennis Souza in the heart of the Barnsley backline.

‘Lewin has just completed another full season in the Championship and the club he played for on loan is desperate to have him back. What does that tell you about his ability?

The teenage defender has also been linked with a move to Nottingham Forest, a rumour his agent soon dismissed:

“Forest boss Colin Calderwood has not phoned me. As far as I am concerned, that is just another rumour.’

Lewin played 41 times for the reds during the 2007/2008 season, netting one goal against Charlton, the game that secured Barnsley`s Championship status.

Wherever Lewin decides to spend his future, he`s sure to have a bright one indeed, with 21 Welsh caps already to his name – good luck to the lad.
