Barnsley manager Simon Davey heaped praise on hard working striker Jon Macken after his side’s victory of Doncaster on Tuesday night.

The former Derby striker bagged the only goal of the game in the South Yorkshire derby at the Keepmoat Stadium earlier in the week.

Manager Simon Davey said:

‘Everybody looks at your strikers and judges them by the goals they score but a lot of Jon Macken’s hard work and hold-up play goes unnoticed.

‘He’s probably the missing jigsaw piece that perhaps we didn’t have a year ago. Jon does hold the ball up for us and it’s great for his own self-belief to get that goal and hopefully that is the catalyst to go on and get more.’

Macken’s two goals of the season have both come against Doncaster Rovers in two derby victories.
