No Plymouth Trip For Barnsley

After the match between Plymouth Argyle and Barnsley was controversially abandoned at 58 minutes in November, with the Reds 4-1 up, it seems the re-arranged fixture is bewitched.

The game was rescheduled for January 13th, only for Plymouth’s F.A. Cup replay with Newcastle United to force postponement once again until January 23rd. Now, less than 24 hours before kick-off, the third date has been called off due to the pitch once again being waterlogged.

No fourth date has been set for the unplayed tie yet, but it’s getting a little bit frustrating for Barnsley, who now have to wait even longer to ‘go west’ and pick up the three points their original performance warranted.

It’s just a little bit annoying that in all the years I’ve been watching Barnsley, I can’t recall a game at Oakwell having to be called off for such a reason, let alone twice. Premier League matches don’t seem to succumb to such fate very often either. Surely there should be sanctions in place to compensate teams in these situations as Barnsley, through no fault of their own will now have to pack another fixture in no doubt somewhere in midweek in their bid to climb the Championship table.

If the stadium, pitch, surrounding area or whatever isn’t fit to host a Championship match, how in Toby Tyke’s name is it going to cope if we land the World Cup?
