One Down, Twelve To Go!

So that’s one week down and twelve more to go until the football’s back and what a week it’s been!

The club announced the release of Martin Devaney, Matt Hill, Danny Fearnehough, Connor Branson and Steven Bennett at the end of their respective deals, with Hugo Colace also departing with a year left on his contract.

Then came the news that Mark Robins may be leaving the club. It was reported early on Thursday that Robins had had his contract terminated, believed to be fuelled by a disagreement with the board.

On Friday the club moved to clear up confusion from the report, stating that Robins was still the manager of Barnsley and that they had simply invoked his contract to begin his notice period of twelve months and that Robins wanted time to think about his position at the club in the light of new budgetary constraints.

Meanwhile, bets have been flooding in on Robins becoming the new boss at one of League One’s massive clubs Sheffield United, who parted company with Micky Adams last week, pushing Robins to the odds on favourite for the post.

If every week of close-season is as eventful as the last, the new campaign will certainly fly by.
