Perkins Signs Extension

Barnsley midfielder David Perkins has signed a contract extension until the summer of 2014.

His previous deal was up at the end of the season and it`s good to see the reds acting swiftly and getting contracts sorted early. There seems to be a change in policy at the club in regards to this and it can only benefit the club in the long run.

Rather than be fearful of relegation and have everyone on short deals, Barnsley should have everyone signed up so when it comes to the sale of players they are the ones with the aces in their hands. This seems to be the new philosophy at the moment.

Other players out of contract next summer are Luke Steele and Jim McNulty. Rumours continue to circulate regarding McNulty moving away from the club. They either need to sell him now or get him signed up too.

Steele is the important one. Barnsley need him to put pen to paper as soon as possible or face the prospect of losing him for nothing next season.

Steele was outstanding last season, the best in the Championship from what I saw. Bigger clubs will inevitably come knocking and the keepers we have used in his injury absence have not really looked the part in my opinion.
