Barnsley have made the League Cup Third Round’s only giantkilling by beating Burnley.

The Championship side beat Premier League new boys Burnley in a thrilling 3-2 victory at Oakwell with both sides leading during the game.

David Preece was exceptional in goal despite conceding two, making some excellent stops and piling the pressure on Luke Steele who is due to return from injury in a few weeks time.

Burnley took the lead on 21 minutes through Fletcher but his opener was cancelled out by Jon Macken two minutes later.

The Reds were in front on the stroke of half time as Anderson De Silva provided a superb finish after Adam Hammill squandered a good chance.

Minutes after the restart Burnley drew the game level again through Chris Eagles who looked dangerous all night.

However it was Barnsley who had the final word through Hugo Colace with his first goal for the club, heading Anderson De Silva’s cross past substitute goalkeeper Penny from 10 yards.

It leaves Barnsley in the fourth round of the League Cup for the first time this millennium and a very good chance of a tie with another Premier League club.
