New Barnsley manager Mark Robins has been in charge of the club for three games so far and has had mixed fortunes, tasting both defeat and victory before a goalless draw with Swansea City.
Robins took charge just a couple of days before the Reds were due back from an international break to face Watford at Vicarage Road and the 39 year old couldn`t prevent them slipping to a fifth successive league defeat.
Speaking after the match Robins told the official website that he understood why he had been given the job much better: “There is a crisis of confidence in those players and we need to be more blood and thunder,” prompting the assumption that all was not well in the dressing room, something that had constantly been hotly denied by previous manager Simon Davey.
His fortunes changed a few days later though when the Reds travelled to Pride Park and came away with all three points. A thrilling 100 minutes of football culminated in a 3-2 victory for Barnsley with goals coming from Adam Hammill, Andy Gray and Anderson De Silva.
Robins took a rejuvenated Barnsley squad into his first home game against Swansea City but could only manage a stalemate with both sides wasting good chances.
Four points from nine is obviously not league winning form but it`s certainly much better than one point from fifteen which was Simon Davey`s return from his first five games of the season.
Tonight`s cup game provide a welcome break for the Reds from the league, giving them a chance to recuperate with the pressure off against a Premier League side before their attempt to improve their league standing continues at Loftus Road on Saturday.
