Reds Retained List

So the retained list is out and Barnsley have offered new contracts to Tomasz Cywka, Stephen Dawson and Jim O`Brien. All of which are good decisions in my opinion. They have been some of our better players in what has been a poor season and will be good players in League One.

Brad Abbott, Christian Dibble, Darren McKnight and Rhys Oates have all been offered new deals from the development squad.

The club have also released the following players:

Jordan Clark
John Cofie
Kelvin Etuhu
Emmanuel Frimpong
Bobby Hassell
Andrai Jones
Liam Lawrence
Paddy McCourt
Sam Patterson
McCauley Shillito
Erico Sousa
Jordan Tunnicliffe
Iain Turner
Martin Woods.

No surprises really although Kelvin Etuhu can consider himself unlucky. Danny Wilson obviously just doesn`t fancy him despite him playing out of position at right back and getting Danny out of the a hole by doing so.

One other thing I have to question is what has happened to the talent and promise shown by Jordan Clark? Anyone with any insider information please feel free to comment.

It is also fair to say that every one of Wilson`s January signings were poor and no surprise to see that none of them have been retained.

Three academy scholars have also been offered professional terms and they are George Maris, George Smith and Nana Boakye-Yiadom.

As for Jacob Mellis, reds boss Danny Wilson will meet with his representatives at a later date to discuss his future.

Mellis is a player that divides opinion but he is certainly a talented lad and someone somewhere is surely capable of getting the best out of him, maybe that is Danny Wilson.

Finally on behalf of every single Barnsley fan I know, I would like to thank Bobby Hassell for ten years` service to Barnsley Football Club.

Bobby has shown great commitment to the club and I would like to wish him all the best wherever he ends up next.

Feel for Cofie, Jones, Shillito and Sousa, they never got a chance with the first team

Maybe they should have been given an opportunity with how bad the first team lads were doing. I must say, I liked the look of Jones when he came on in the great escape season.
