Less than 24 hours after announcing the acquisition of Birmingham City striker Garry O’Connor on loan, Barnsley manager Mark Robins has vowed to bring more players into the Barnsley squad.

Robins was speaking to the official site after a disappointing away defeat to Norwich City. He said: ‘We needed steel out there today and if we cannot get it into this side then I will bring it in.’

Robins was apparently bitterly disappointed at the way the Reds squandered a 1-0 lead over his former employers Norwich City at Carrow Road, after Jay McEveley had nodded Barnsley in front in first half stoppage time. He continued: ‘There were too many players hobbling around with cramp and that is disappointing. It was a disappointing end to a promising game.’

The effort was certainly there from Barnsley today. Norwich City’s first goal came from a free kick while captain Jason Shackell was off the field for treatment so the Reds were somewhat unlucky to concede an own goal to equalise for Norwich.
