Barnsley goalkeeper Luke Steele is set to miss the start of the season after months of injury problems.

The reds stopper missed the back end of last season with an abdominal problem but was expecting to be fit for the start of the new campaign.

More problems followed in pre-season with doctors thinking a groin strain was the problem. However both Steele and the Barnsley physio knew that wasn`t the case.

A bone injury was finally diagnosed which takes longer to heal than strains so it looks like the Barnsley number one will be out for at least the first few games.

This will give an opportunity to new signing Ben Alnwick.

This worries me slightly as the only time I have seen him was away at Rotherham where he was very poor and flapping at everything.

I hope this was just a case of he hasn`t played many games lately and with each pre-season game he will grow in confidence and hopefully prove a worthy contender to push Steele for a starting spot.
