Barnsley’s League 1 season continued with a (again) defeat at Oakwell against Port Vale on Saturday!

It doesn’t get any easier for Barnsley, defeat in the FA Cup to Altrincham saw the Reds respond with a win in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy over York but it was back to losing ways, well a continuation of losing ways, against Port Vale at the weekend.

Port Vale took their chances whereas Barnsley didn’t with Vale going away with a two-one win….

The pressure applied by Barnsley didn’t result in any goals in the first half, which looked to be ending goalless until Ajay Leitch-Smith (40) managed to loop a header in to send Port Vale into the break one-up.

A positive start to the second half was wanted, and needed from Barnsley, which looked on but Byron Moore ran with the ball before passing to Sam Foley (47) who finished into the top corner to double the visitors lead just two-minutes after the beak.

Hope of a fightback was restored with time running out when Sam Winnall (77) came off the bench to score and give Barnsley a route back into the game but an equaliser couldn’t be found as an eighth successive League 1 defeat was suffered to leave them second bottom….

You’ve got to go way back to the visit of current League 1 leaders Gillingham, on 26th September, for the last time Barnsley won in the league.
