Barnsley’s League 1 season continued with that much coveted and needed three-points collected in a win at Boundary Park against Oldham on Saturday.

Another defeat, against anyone, wouldn’t have been wanted but against his former side would have (in some ways) made it even worse but not only did Johnson see his Barnsley side avoid this a late Long winner, after a Hourihane opener had been cancelled out by Yates, won it for the Reds two-one!

A positive Barnsley start had already seen Hammill denied his latest goal of his second spell with the club by the post before Hourihane (30), in typical fashion, fired home from 20-yards to have the Reds ahead on the half hour mark.

This lead, importantly, was taken into half time.

With time running out, and Barnsley looking good for a win, Oldham drew level when Yeates (78) converted a Poleon pass with a little over 10-minutes to go with the Latics looking on for a share of the points.

A big three-points, just how important they’ll end up being for Johnson and Barnsley will be known in time, was secured in the dying embers of the game when Burnley loanee defender Long (90) smashed home the winner!

Was Johnson ‘under pressure?’

Of course he was, and will still be, but the Head Coach continues to get backing from the board but if a ninth successive defeat had been suffered time would have seriously been running out.

If this is the start to a positive run will also be known soon enough….
