Barnsley’s League 1 season continued with a defeat at London Road against free-scoring (as I’d kept saying pre-match) Peterborough on Tuesday.

A five-goal thriller, which had seen Peterborough ahead through Angol only for Hourihane to bring Barnsley level from the spot then saw Posh take control with Addison and Maddison scoring.

Winnall pulled one back late on but it wasn’t enough. The Reds also had Long sent off.

A little past the midway point of th first half Peterborough took the lead when Angol (24) scored but Barnsley had the chance to level before half time when Posh debutant, and former Derby and Bournemouth man, Addison brought down Watkins.

Hourihane (38) was quite literally ‘spot on’ to make it one-all.

Addison (62) atoned for his first half indiscretion when he headed home a corner from Maddison just past the hour; Maddison (73), who certainly had an impact from the bench, added a third with a deflected effort to leave Barnsley with an uphill battle.

This mountain was turned into a molehill when Winnall (77) reduced the deficit but these chances were all but ended when Long was sent off….

On Saturday the Burnley loanee marked his debut with a winning goal, however on his second outing he was sent off for a poor challenge that will effectively, you feel, end his Reds loan spell!
