Barnsley’s joint top scorer from the last campaign wanted to extend his stay at Oakwell and has got his just rewards for the 9 goals he plundered for the Reds last season, with a new one year deal at Barnsley.

The 31 year old has put pen to paper on a new deal and says that he always wanted to stay at Barnsley. Speaking to Barnsley World TV, Macken said: ‘It was an easy decision really. I have fully enjoyed my time here. I enjoyed every game I played and I am looking forward to next season.’

The Irish striker signed in January 2008 after a successful loan spell from erstwhile Premier League outfit Derby County. His workmanlike performances have earned him the respect of Barnsley fans even if his strike rate is not amazing.

He has made 75 appearances for Barnsley, scoring 17 goals.
