Plans to extend the seven sub rule to the football league were approved this week at the league’s AGM.
Clubs in the Championship and Leagues 1 and 2 will now be able to name seven substitutes in their matchday squad, but still use the regular amount of three.
Simon Davey is in favour of the decision, which he sees as an opportunity to not only cover every position of the starting eleven but possibly include some youngsters.
This will be encouraging news to the likes of Jacob Butterfield and Michael Coulson, who have a very big season ahead of them and could make an impact from the bench this season.
