With six signings made so far, Barnsley are still in the market for a few more players.

Mark Robins is keeping most of them under his hat as usual but there has been many a rumour over the close season as to who he might be bringing in.

Jim O’Brien was rumoured to be joining Barnsley at the end of May, which turned out to be true.

The next rumour is so far unfulfilled but Vital reported on Sheffield Wednesday’s Tommy Spurr being a potential target for the Reds.

Newspapers suggested that the Reds were set to swoop for James Beattie but Mark Robins quashed these rumours.

Another big name was then linked with Barnsley in the form of Kevin Phillips, probably the most far fetched rumour of them all.

Wolves striker Andy Keogh has also been rumoured to be joining Barnsley, but this is looking less likely by the day, as Doncaster Rovers and Leeds United are keeping tabs on him and Mick McCarthy has suggested that Andy will want to remain in the Premier League.

Not for the first time, former Red Jon Parkin has been the topic of discussion amongst Barnsley fans but nothing as yet has come out of the club to suggest they are watching the ‘Beast’.

Yet another striker has been linked with Barnsley, only this one’s been linked since Mark Robins took charge at Oakwell. Adam Le Fondre from Rotherham United is rumoured to be interested in linking up with his former boss.

Finally, in a rare move, Robins told the media about his intention to bring back Stoke City defender Ryan Shotton.

On July 24th at the Barnsley V Huddersfield match, WBA’s Chris Wood was spotted at Oakwell, stoking rumours that the New Zealand international striker is on his way to Barnsley.
